Emerging out of wilderness Eugenio Chacarra clinches Hero Indian OpenÂ
Eugenio Chacarra secured his European Tour status with a victory at the Hero Indian Open, his third professional title. The 25-year-old Spaniard, a former World No. 2 amateur, had faced uncertainty after his contract with the LIV Golf tour was not renewed in 2024, leaving him without official status on any tour. Playing thanks to special invites, Chacarra entered the Hero Indian Open after impressing at the International Series. On Sunday, he delivered a composed final round of one-under 71 at the DLF Golf and Country Club, finishing two strokes ahead of defending champion Keita Nakajima.

Onwards and Upwards
Chacarra’s win guarantees him a place on the European Tour (now DP World Tour) until 2027. After the tournament, he expressed his confidence, stating, “When I play my best, I’m one of the best players in the world.” This victory marked the biggest win of his career and fulfilled the promise he had shown as an amateur and collegiate golfer in the United States.
The tournament, played on a demanding course, saw only three players finish under par. Chacarra’s composure on the final day was key, despite early setbacks that led to a four-way tie at the top by the third hole. The course, particularly challenging this year, yielded a winning score of four-under par, significantly higher than previous years.

Seizing the Opportunity
Chacarra capitalised on opportunities, delivering precise approach shots on the sixth and ninth holes and sinking crucial birdie putts on the 11th and 12th. A spectacular chip from the rough on the 14th further cemented his lead. His opponents, including Nakajima, struggled to match his accuracy.
Reflecting on the victory, Chacarra acknowledged the tough conditions and the fortunate breaks he received but emphasized his pride in the win. Despite the pressure and challenges, his ability to adapt and seize key moments on a difficult course solidified his well-deserved triumph.
