Bangladesh had a strong start to their World Cup campaign, securing a comprehensive six-wicket victory against Afghanistan in a low-scoring match at the picturesque venue of Dharamshala.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field. The Afghan openers made an impressive start after being put into bat, but skipper Shakib Al Hasan’s entry into the attack turned the game in his team’s favour.
Shakib took three wickets, becoming the game-changer, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz also performed admirably, building pressure on the Afghan batters and claiming three wickets.
Only Rahmanullah Gurbaz managed to score 47 runs, as the rest of the Afghan batters struggled. After the fall of the fourth wicket, the entire batting order collapsed, and Afghanistan was bowled out for a mere 156 runs. Shoriful Islam took two wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur picked up one each.
In the chase, Bangladesh lost a couple of early wickets, but once again, Mehidy Hasan Miraz played a pivotal role. His partnership with Shanto put Bangladesh in control, and they eventually won by six wickets. Both batsmen completed their fifties and secured the victory in style.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was named the player of the match for his outstanding all-round performance, scoring 57 runs off 73 balls and taking three crucial wickets.
