India staged a remarkable comeback, rallying from a two-goal deficit to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory against a determined Malaysia in the Asian Champions Trophy final at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.

India’s goal scorers included Jugraj Singh (9th minute), captain Harmanpreet Singh (45th), Gurjant Singh (45th), and Akashdeep Singh (56th).

Malaysia’s Abu Kamal Azrai (14th), Razie Rahim (18th), and Muhamad Aminudin (28th) found the back of the net, demonstrating their persistent attack.

This victory marked India’s record fourth Asian Champions Trophy title, solidifying their position as the most successful team in the tournament. Notably, India had previously defeated Malaysia 5-0 during the round-robin league stage.

Despite a challenging start, India progressively gained momentum and transitioned to a full-press hockey strategy. Malaysia maintained their aggression, leading to goals but also drawing solid defense from India.

The tide shifted in India’s favor as they swiftly netted two goals, equalizing the score at 3-3. Harmanpreet Singh’s penalty stroke and Gurjant Singh’s field play strike brought India back into contention.

In the crucial moments, Akashdeep Singh’s powerful slap shot from the ‘D’ secured the winning goal for India, as they applied consistent pressure and created goal-scoring opportunities.

Throughout the match, both teams exhibited intense play, with India eventually prevailing to claim their fourth Asian Champions Trophy title.
