Since its inception, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has provided a platform for India’s brightest talents and helped form the core of India’s current national side. The competition works in a way that forces teams to focus on uncapped players right from the auction, and they often shell out large amounts of money to secure their services.
The most successful franchises in the league have often had their uncapped stars to thank, with the Gujarat Titans a great example. Winning in their first season in the IPL isn’t easy, but their faith in their players showed throughout the season. They backed a young uncapped batter like Sai Sudharsan to bat at a vital No.3 position and are now reaping the rewards.
On that note, let’s now look at the best-uncapped players to look out for from the Group B teams.

Despite being called the ‘Dads Army’ because of their recent tendency in recruiting older and more experienced players, CSK has also developed plenty of uncapped youngsters and continues to do so.
U-19 star Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Tushar Deshpande, who keeps improving with every game, seem to be carrying CSK’s pace bowling attack this season. Left-arm seamer Mukesh Choudhary, who was CSK’s find of the season in IPL 2022, has unfortunately been ruled out of this season.
Young leg-spinner Prashant Solanki is also someone we could see in action as the season progresses and the wickets slow down.
Gujarat Titans
Questions were raised over GT’s recruitment strategy before IPL 2022, but they answered all those questions with their performances. One of the reasons for their success was their uncapped players, a department they’re strong in even now.
Young Tamil Nadu batter Sai Sudharsan has received plenty of plaudits for his game awareness and confident stroke-making. He already has two half-centuries to his name in three matches, and as previously mentioned, props to GT for allowing an uncapped youngster to bat at No.3, one of the most vital batting positions.
Another Tamil Nadu star in their ranks is R Sai Kishore. A tall left-arm spinner who’s one of the tightest, most economical bowlers in the domestic circuit, Sai Kishore played a crucial role for GT toward the second half of IPL 2022.
Karnataka batter Abhinav Manohar and Rahul Tewatia further bolster GT’s batting, helping them finish off matches.
And lastly, despite his off day against KKR, Yash Dayal remains one of India’s premier left-arm seamers in the domestic circuit, and GT’s management should continue to back him throughout the season.
Punjab Kings
PBKS has been a team that has produced some of the most promising uncapped Indian talents in the last few years in the IPL, with players like Arshdeep Singh getting integrated into the national fold and Jitesh Sharma getting an India call-up.
Dashing Punjab batter Prabhsimran Singh joins Jitesh to make up an exciting and attack-minded PBKS top order. After a terrific domestic season, Prabhsimran has carried his form into the IPL and got PBKS off to an excellent start against RR.
They have also persisted with TN batter Shahrukh Khan, who’s yet to deliver the goods in the IPL. Left-arm spinner and bowling all-rounder Harpreet Brar is another solid uncapped player they possess. Indian U-19 star Raj Bawa is another player PBKS didn’t hesitate to get in the IPL 2022 Auction. However, he has been ruled out by injury this season, with Gurnoor Brar replacing him.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB hasn’t utilized their uncapped players much this season, with Bengal seamer Akash Deep as the only uncapped player to make their starting XI. They also inexplicably brought in top-order batter and wicket-keeper Anuj Rawat as an Impact Player to bat at No.8 during their collapse against KKR.
Rajat Patidar, who famously scored a hundred in The Eliminator of IPL 2022 and received an India call-up after a stellar domestic run, is unfortunately ruled out of the tournament with an injury.
Suyash Prabhudessai and Mahipal Lomror are powerful middle-order batters, with the latter also capable of rolling his arm over.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
SRH helped bring to centerstage one of India’s brightest pace-bowling talents in, Umran Malik, and that’s the most recent example of the franchise’s quality player development and recruitment. This season too, they have some decent uncapped players in their ranks.
Abhishek Sharma had a breakthrough season opening the batting for SRH in IPL 2022, and while he needs to convert his starts better, the attacking batter who also bowls left-arm orthodox is a player to watch out for.
They also have speedster Kartik Tyagi in their ranks. The India U-19 star is well known for defending four runs off the last over against PBKS in IPL 2021. They also bid hard at the auction to sign Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder Vivrant Sharma to join Abdul Samad and Umran Malik in the side’s existing contingent from J&K.
