Jasprit Bumrah’s highly anticipated return to international cricket was a resounding success, with India securing a narrow two-run victory (DLS method) against Ireland in the opening T20I of the series.

After a humiliating loss to the West Indies, the Indian team faced immense pressure, but they managed it adeptly, even though there are several areas they still need to work on.

Regarding the match, India won the toss and chose to field first. Rinku Singh, a promising batter, made his debut, alongside Prasidh Krishna who made his debut in T20Is and returned to international cricket. Jasprit Bumrah made an impactful comeback, taking two wickets in the initial over, conceding merely four runs, with the first delivery proving particularly crucial.

India utilised six bowlers within the initial 10 overs, establishing their dominance. The Irish batters initially struggled, finding themselves at 59/6. A revival was led by Barry McCarthy and Curtis Campher, who contributed 57 runs in 44 balls for the seventh wicket partnership.

Curtis Campher’s dismissal for 39 off 33 balls ended the partnership. Barry McCarthy continued his scoring spree and reached a half-century, concluding with an unbeaten 51 off 33 balls. This set India a target of 140 runs to chase.

During the chase, openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad got a strong start. However, India lost two quick wickets in the first over after the powerplay due to rain interruption, leading to the match being called off. At that point, India was two runs ahead according to the DLS method, resulting in India winning the first T20I against Ireland and taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
