The Mumbai Indians team on Saturday began their pre-season training camp ahead of the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) season at the Reliance Jio Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The first practice session of the Mumbai Indians team was closely monitored by the coaching staff which includes Charlotte Edwards (Head coach), Jhulan Goswami (Team mentor and Bowling coach), Devieka Palshikar (Batting coach), Lydia Greenway (Fielding coach) and team manager Trupti Chandgadkar Bhattacharya.

“It’s been brilliant. It’s been great to get the team out here. Obviously, our own venue and to see the players, it’s been brilliant for me. Heard a lot about these players and to finally get them into the nets and watch them in action it’s been fantastic,” said Charlotte Edwards, head Coach, Mumbai Indians.

Some of the big names in the Mumbai Indians team are India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, England vice-captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, Indian fast-bowling all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar, New Zealand’s leg-spin all-rounder Amelia Kerr and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews.

Indiawin Sports Pvt. Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries won the rights to own the Mumbai team in the WPL by the second-highest bid of INR 912.99 crores. The company also owns five-time champion team Mumbai Indians in the IPL, MI Cape Town in SA20 and MI Emirates in ILT20.

The inaugural edition of the WPL will comprise a total of 22 matches and will be played from March 4 to 26 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and the D.Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Mumbai Indians will kick off the inaugural edition of the tournament by playing the first match against the Gujarat Giants at the D.Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on March 4.
