Paris St Germain (PSG) has reached an agreement with Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal for the transfer of Brazilian forward Neymar. The completion of the deal is contingent on Neymar successfully undergoing a medical examination.
Reportedly, the transfer amount is approximately 90 million euros ($98.56 million), supplemented by additional payments.
Neymar, who originally joined PSG in 2017 from Barcelona for a record-breaking fee of 222 million euros ($243 million), was unable to participate in PSG’s Ligue 1 season opener against Lorient due to a viral infection.
Under his existing contract, Neymar was slated to remain with the French club until 2025. During his time at PSG, he has achieved an impressive record of 118 goals in 173 appearances and has earned several accolades, including five Ligue 1 championships.
Al Hilal, hailing as the most successful club in Saudi Arabia and the broader Asia region, has a storied history with 66 trophies to their name. They hold prominent records for both league and Asian Champions League titles, boasting 18 and four respectively.
Notably, Al Hilal had pursued Neymar’s PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe for a potential signing, and there were reports of interest in Argentine player Lionel Messi, who ultimately chose to join Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami.
Al Hilal’s ambition to enhance their team’s capabilities is a key focus, as the Saudi Public Investment Fund revealed plans in June for an investment and privatization initiative involving prominent sports clubs like league champions Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Hilal, all based in Riyadh.
