According to a source familiar with the Olympic bidding process, Qatar is determined to bring the Summer Olympic Games to Doha in 2036.

The ongoing FIFA soccer World Cup’s success has emboldened Qataris and strengthened their resolve to host the Olympics.

The International Olympic Committee has not stated when it plans to award the 2036 sports extravaganza.

If the Games are held in Doha, they will be the first to be held in a Muslim country.

Qatar failed to make the shortlist for both the 2016 and 2020 Games, owing in part to concerns about the desert state’s summer temperatures, with those Games ultimately going to Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.

It is expected that Qatar, like it did with the World Cup, will push to move any Olympics later in the year, and the Gulf state has used advanced air-conditioning systems in stadiums to mitigate the heat for the football.

The World Athletics Championships were held in Doha in 2019 at the Khalifa International Stadium from late September to early October.

Since then, the IOC has changed the process for awarding the Games, shifting from a traditional bidding process to selecting a preferred candidate from a pool of interested cities.

The Games in Brisbane 2032 were the first to be awarded in this manner.
