South African wicketkeeper-player Quinton de Kock made himself unavailable for the team’s T20 World Cup match against the West Indies. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma affirmed the news at the toss on Tuesday. Bavuma referenced that Quinton de Kock has made himself unavailable for ‘personal reasons’.

The news comes closely following a mandate by Cricket South Africa on Tuesday. The board requested that every one of their players “take a knee” together on the side of a battle against racism for the rest of the tournament.

While the two occasions could be totally inconsequential, Quinton de Kock was the first player to not take a new and also missed from the team’s national anthem after the toss on Tuesday.
