Rafael Nadal faulted daylight for making his most first round at Wimbledon somewhat more testing on Tuesday.
However, he did likewise credit his athletic Argentine rival Francisco Cerundolo with having his impact in extending a retaining challenge to four sets.
Nadal, looking for a third Grand Slam title straight, was not discontent with the manner in which he played in spite of a progression of unforced errors. It was his first competitive outing on the Wimbledon grass for a very long time and he won 6-4 6-3 3-6 6-4.
Cerundolo upped the ante in the third set of the three-hour 33-minute match.
Nadal, has a men’s record 22 Grand Slam wins to his name, two a greater number of than favorite Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, who is missing Wimbledon interestingly starting around 1999 in view of a knee injury.
Few would wager against a Nadal-Djokovic show-stopper match as the seedings recommend.
