Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson will miss the rest of the Indian Premier League season to get back to New Zealand for the birth of his child, the IPL team said on Wednesday.
Hyderabad are eighth in the points table and should win their final league match against Punjab Kings on Sunday while trusting different outcomes turn out well for them to make it to the playoffs.
“Our skipper Kane Williamson is flying back to New Zealand, to usher in the latest addition to his family. Here’s everyone at the Riser camp wishing Kane Williamson and his wife a safe delivery and a lot of happiness,” SRH franchise tweeted.
Williamson had a tough stretch with the bat in the IPL and emptied the opener’s space to bat at number six in Tuesday’s win against Mumbai Indians.
Hyderabad are yet to announce who will lead the side without the New Zealand skipper.
The 31-year-old has fought back from a an elbow issue and is set to make his test return one month from now in a three-match series in England.
