India has started their World Cup Campaign on a high as they are unbeaten in ICC ODI World Cup 2023. They comfortably sit in the second position of the points table behind New Zealand as they are also unbeaten in this World Cup with a high run rate.
India comfortably defeated Bangladesh yesterday, but the team and the fans are concerned as Hardik Pandya has sustained an injury as he twisted his left ankle in an attempt to stop the ball while bowling.
Pandya was bowling the ninth over of the innings when he tried to stop a straight drive by Liton Das, twisting his left ankle and tumbling over.
He later got up and tried walking but failed to walk properly as he was experiencing a lot of pain. The physios quickly rushed towards him and later he was taken for the scans.
Apart from Bumrah and Kuldeep, Pandya is arguably the most irreplaceable player for India because of his all-round abilities. He can play like a specialist batter and provides the sixth bowling option to India and captain Rohit Sharma which they badly need. He has bowled around 16 overs this World Cup and has scalped around five wickets.
India doesn’t have like to like replacement for Hardik Pandya. The balance of the squad completely changes when Hardik isn’t playing for India. He is such a valuable asset to the team.
India will have to be careful now with how much they will bowl Pandya leading into the World Cup because of the balance he brings to the team. India will face New Zealand next at Dharamshala who are one of the two teams which are still unbeaten in this World Cup.
BCCI has confirmed Hardik Pandya will not feature in the match on Sunday against New Zealand.
