An outstanding bowling display by the Indian bowlers along with some solid batting performances helped them defeat West Indies by 8 wickets in the last match of the Women’s T20I Tri-series in Buffalo Park, East London on Monday.
With this win, India won their third game out of the four matches with one game getting washed out to continue their winning streak in this tri-series. On the other hand, West Indies failed to win a single game in this series and lost all of their matches. Interestingly, West Indies women have not won a single T20I game since September 2022.
Fast bowler Renuka Singh, returned to the playing XI after missing the previous games in this series, while West Indies brought four players new players from their Under-19 T20 World Cup squad – allrounders Zaida James, Djenaba Joseph, Trishan Holder and fast bowler Jannillea Glasgow.
After electing to bowl first, the Indian bowlers were right on the money with all-rounder Deepti Sharma leading the bowling attack to take 3/11 from her four overs with two maidens, while right-arm pacer Pooja Vastrakar claimed 2/19 from her four overs, including one maiden.

Apart from these two bowlers, left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gaykwad also took a wicket and was the most economical of all ending with 1/9 from her four overs as West Indies ended their innings at a below-par score of 94/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
West Indies opener and skipper Hayley Matthews top scored with a run-a-ball 34, hitting five boundaries. They lost their first wicket when opener Rashada Williams was bowled on 8 off 12 by Deepti in the fourth over. On the very next ball, she bowled Shemaine Campbelle with a classical off-spin delivery which went through her gate to claim two wickets in two balls.
At the end of the innings, Zaida James smashed two sixes and remained unbeaten on 21 off 31 balls as West Indies managed to score a total of 94/6 in their 20 overs.
While chasing a small total, India were in a spot of bother with opener Smriti Mandhana getting out early on 5 off 5 after hitting a four as India saw themselves at 8/1 in 1.5 overs.
However, her opening partner Jemimah Rodrigues settled things down and showed good signs right from the start with the ball hitting the middle of her bat. She remained unbeaten on 42 off 39 balls, hitting five fours while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur smashed an unbeaten 32 off 23 balls, hitting 4 fours to help India chase down the total in 13.5 overs and complete a dominating eight-wicket victory.
India will face hosts South Africa in the final of the tri-series on Thursday.
