WI vs IND 1st Test: Ashwin takes five as India dominates West Indies on Day 1

India exhibited their dominance by successfully restricting West Indies to a meager total of 150 runs in their first innings. This accomplishment can be attributed primarily to the exceptional bowling performance of Ravichandran Ashwin, who prevented West Indies from posting a substantial score/

After winning the toss and electing to bat on a dry wicket, West Indies faced difficulties as the ball started turning sharply from the opening day.

The Indian spinners took full advantage of this situation and completely controlled the West Indies batsmen. Ashwin, with his remarkable performance, claimed five wickets, achieving his 33rd five-wicket haul in Test matches. Ravindra Jadeja contributed three wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur each took one wicket.

Among the West Indies players, Alick Athanaze displayed some resistance and emerged as the top scorer, falling just three runs short of a well-deserved half-century on his debut, contributing 47 runs to the team’s total. Unfortunately, the remaining batsmen failed to make significant contributions, leading to West Indies being dismissed for a meager 150 runs.

India got off to an impressive start in their batting innings as the newly formed opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma displayed solidity. They approached their batting positively while avoiding unnecessary risks.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, in his debut match, exhibited composure and finished the day undefeated on 40 runs. He will be eager to build on his promising start and play a substantial innings on the second day, benefiting from the guidance of Rohit Sharma at the other end.

Captain Rohit Sharma showcased excellent form and also remained undefeated on 30 runs. India ended the first day strongly with a score of 80 without losing any wickets. Both batsmen will aim to accumulate more runs on the second day, thereby extending India’s lead.
